Footnotes are <a href=\"https:\/\/foliovision.com\/2017\/02\/markdown-tables#tablesupport\">pretty widely supported<\/a> in offline Markdown applications now.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>CommonMark also <a href=\"http:\/\/commonmark.org\/help\/\">does not<\/a> support footnotes (much to the <a href=\"http:\/\/meta.stackexchange.com\/a\/166518\/319224\">chagrin of Stackoverflow users<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n<p>MultiMarkdown is the implementation <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/fletcher\/MultiMarkdown\/wiki\/MultiMarkdown-Syntax-Guide#footnotes\">which supports footnotes<\/a>. But MultiMarkdown does not support strikethrough with two tildes so I&#8217;m not recommending it unconditionally (GitHub do support strikethrough).<\/p>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dafoster.net\/projects\/rdiscount\/\">Discount<\/a>(which is what I have enabled in Marked 2) supports both footnotes and strikethrough. Discount is the only Markdown version which has full satisfied me after much testing.
